R360 Competition Athletes Face 10-Year Suspension from National Rugby League

The rugby star gained 20 international appearances for the All Blacks before transferring loyalty to Samoa.

Rugby league's administration has stated that participants who join the “breakaway” R360 will be prohibited for 10 years.

The proposed competition, scheduled to begin in 2026, is hoping to draw players from union and league with substantial agreements and a reduced fixture list.

Prominent National Rugby League players have allegedly been contacted by R360, which will include six or eight men's teams and four women's sides operating from key urban centers worldwide.

Representing Samoa the player, who plays for his NRL club in the league, has said he has had discussions with R360.

Papenhuyzen, Lomax, Payne Haas and Jye Gray are also reported to be considering joining the new competition.

Eight major rugby union teams, among them Australia, recently declared a restriction on R360 recruits playing test matches.

“We heard our franchises and we've taken firm action,” said Australian Rugby League Commission chief the official.

“Sadly, there will always be organizations that attempt to hijack our game for monetary profit.

“They avoid funding in pathways or the growth of players. They only leverage the hard work of other organizations, putting players at risk of monetary damage while profiting themselves.

“In truth, they represent, copying the game.”

The organization is established by ex-England star Tindall and funded by commercial backers.

Following the potential union prohibitions were revealed last week, it commented: “We aim to collaborate collaboratively as part of the global rugby calendar.

“The event is structured with customized calendars for male and female sides and we will release all players for international matches, as written into their deals.”

The new league will apply for endorsement for its initiatives from rugby union's governing body, rugby union's governing body, at its council meeting next year.
